Two Moms Reflect
My husband and I spent the first few days after the diagnosis at the hospital with Emma. The three of us were plunged into an intense course in biochemistry, physiology, and nutrition. Emma fought tears as she asked the diabetes educator, "Will I die? Will I be able to have children?"One Year Later by Shelley Lowenstein, mother of Emma, 15

The circumstances of my son's diagnosis were dramatic and terrifying.  With blood sugars in the 1100's and severe dehydration, my child began his diabetic life in the ICU with visits from family pastors preparing us for his death.Ten Years & Counting by Sandra Silvestri,

My diagnosis was a shock to everyone considering that there was absolutely no history of type 1 diabetes in my family at all. For a year prior to the diagnosis I constantly felt sick. .Action Cures Hopelessness .by Erin Rabideau, 17

The first person I told was my best friend, Jenny. I called Jenny on the phone and gave her the news. Of course, she was concerned.

personal stories
"I tell the newly diagnosed that that initial intensity will wear off--in our family's case it took about two years," says one mom, a member of our Diabetes Support Team whose son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 4 and is now 24. "But from that first day forward, we learned more and more about the disease, and how to integrate it into our lives, until it became an integral function of the family. I cannot say I will ever accept the fact that my son has type 1 diabetes or that I will stop fighting for a cure, but we have learned to cope and move forward, and I am comfortable that my son has led and will lead a full and active life."
Juvenile diabetes has no age limit. Kids starting from 6 months age to 18 years can have this. Earlier they get in age, more difficult is to control. I can feel the pain and sorrow of parents whose kids get this. Poking small fingers and hand with needle 5 to7 times in 24 hours and puncturing their kid’s bodies with insulin syringes 3 to 4 times a day is not easy.
Kids cry and wish this time and moment never had come in their life, deep in heart parents also cry, but life is more important than this needle pain.
I have felt the same pain as parent and hope no other parent get this ever...please join us to share this pain and make life little better for us as parents and for our kids to bring happiness and normal life like feelings.
100,000 kids die around the world without even knowing why...let us stop this by providing information education and path to understand for better control....

Some Facts About The Juvenile Diabetes And Its Symptoms
Juvenile diabetes and type 1 diabetes is one and the same. It is a very serious disease, and if you do not recognize the juvenile diabetes symptoms then if left untreated can become very serious to the person suffering from this condition. It is a chronic disorder caused by the body where the body does not make enough insulin. It is necessary to take five insulin shots regularly per day for the children who suffers from juvenile diabetes. This equips their bodies with the insulin levels needed to convert food into energy.

Having these insulin shots does not cure diabetes it only helps the sufferer live a better life by managing their blood sugar levels. It is good for managing the condition effectively to have a healthy diet and exercise. Many years ago people did not recognize juvenile diabetes symptoms or understand it. People used to die of juvenile diabetes, but thanks to the discovery and use of insulin, today both young and old can obtain treatment and live a long and fulfilling life.

What Are Juvenile Diabetes Symptoms To Spot?

If you love your children which hopefully you do. Then it is in your best interest as well as the interest of your children to find out what the juvenile diabetes are. A few symptoms of juvenile diabetes have been put down to have a look
Frequent urination
Being constantly thirsty
Decline in weight having no reason
Being extremely hungry all the time
And also blurred vision
These are just a few of the most common juvenile diabetes symptoms, but there are others muscle pain and weakness, regular fatigue, and even swelling of the joints. So pay attention to your children and if anything seems slightly off and they are experiencing any of the above juvenile diabetes symptoms. Then take them to a physician, do not deceive yourself into thinking that you are just being an overprotective or cautious parent. It would be better to rather be safe than sorry.

There are also other types of diabetes such as type 2 diabetes, which is far more common than type 1 diabetes and gestational diabetes which occurs in pregnant women and disappears once the baby is born. Doctors believe that it occurs in pregnancy as a result of hormonal changes in the body but there is no real proof as to why it happens. Most women do not get this condition but it is definitely on the rise due to obesity and unhealthy eating habits on their part

My name is Beatriz Vala (AKA Bia) and I'm 14 years old. I live in Portugal, in a village near Leiria, called Porto de Mós. When I discovered my diabetes, I had already started school and I was drinking lots of water (5 liters a day). I urinated very often and I was always hungry! So, once when my dad came home from work, my mom sad to him that I needed to see a doctor because I wasn't ok. So my dad called my great aunt. She's a doctor and also has type 1 diabetes! He told her how I was and she sad that it was better I went to the pharmacy to get a blood glucose test. So I went and it was 425 mg/dL
Hey everybody! My name is Zoe and I have been living with diabetes since October 10, 2008. I'm 11 years old.

I had all the usual symptems. I was really thirsty all the time, had to go to the bathroom a lot and was really tired. My blood sugar was 1054! My mom took me straight to the emergency room. They did blood work right away, but before that my mom took me to the doctor's office and they said I was fine just had a virus and to drink lots of Gatorade and stuff.

My name is Emily and I'm 11 years old (12 in August)! Here is my story.
It all started seven years ago. I had just turned four about 3 months prior. I can't really remember but I guess I had the obvious signs, going to the loo more, moody, sleepy, thirsty, etc.
I went to the doctor's office. The doctor must have told Mammy something because she became upset. I was sitting on the floor playing with a doll house. I had no idea that in that split second my life had changed.
The next thing I remember, was Mammy telling me we were going to stay in my cousin's house -- a sleep over! She told me to pack my things and so I did. I had no clue we were going to Dublin from Carlow!
In case I was wondering why we were in the hospital, Mammy told me we were going to visit my other cousin. Next thing I knew, nurses were poking a needle at me. Little did I know that there would be many more needles to follow! I was in a ward. Every time I had to go to the toilet, it was sampled and tested. I had to get a lot of needles that week. I cried at first. Now i have lots of support. I'm not on the pump yet but hope to be this year.
My role model is Nick Jonas! My number one tip would be to tell a friend about everything so when you meet someone new they can explain for you! Please e-mail me at abman@eircom.net. I would love to hear from you,
